5 Army personnel killed in an encounter in J&K

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four Jawans were killed on Monday in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four Jawans were killed on Monday in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The encounter started between the security forces and the terrorists when the Army Personnel were undertaking an Anti-insurgency operation.

Police team and Army Officials were immediately rushed to the spot after receiving the information. The critically injured JCO and four jawans were evacuated to the nearest medical facility but succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile the area has been cordoned off.   

The operation was launched in a village close to DKG in Surankote in the early hours following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists. As per the intelligence inputs, there are reports that a group of heavily armed terrorists in the Chamer Forest, after they manage to sneak from the across the line of control a few days ago.

The Additional troops of the Army and police have been deployed in the area. 

The incident comes amid the continuous ceasefire violation by the terrorists and increasing terrorist activity in the recent weeks. So far, 700 people have been detained in response to the killing of seven civilians.
